Laptop LCD panel N116BGE-EA2 with part number label

How to Find Your Laptop Screen Part Number (and Order the Right Replacement)

Ordering a laptop screen by size alone is the most common mistake we see. Two 15.6" panels can look identical and still have different connectors, resolutions, mounting tabs or touch layers. The only safe way to order is by the panel part number.

Why the part number matters

  • Connector: 30-pin and 40-pin eDP connectors are not interchangeable.
  • Resolution: HD (1366Γ—768), FHD (1920Γ—1080) and higher-resolution panels use different signals.
  • Mounting: some panels have side brackets or top/bottom tabs; others are slim with no brackets.
  • Touch: touchscreen panels are a different assembly from non-touch.
  • Refresh rate: gaming laptops often need 120Hz or 144Hz panels.

Method 1: Read the label on the back of the panel

This is the most accurate method.

  1. Power off the laptop and unplug the charger.
  2. Carefully remove the bezel (the plastic frame around the screen). Most pop off with a plastic pry tool; some are held by small screws under rubber covers.
  3. Remove the screws holding the panel and tilt it forward gently. Do not pull on the cable.
  4. Read the sticker on the back. Look for a code like NV156FHM-N61, B140HAN04.0, LP156WF6-SPK1 or N140HCA-EAC. The brand (BOE, AUO, LG, Innolux, Sharp) and model code are what you need.

Method 2: Use your laptop model or service tag

If you do not want to open the screen, find the exact model on the sticker under the laptop (for example Lenovo ThinkPad T480 20L5, Dell Latitude 5490 or HP ProBook 450 G5). Dell service tags and Lenovo machine types let us look up the original panel options. Keep in mind one laptop model can ship with several different screens, so the panel label is still the best confirmation.

Method 3: Check in Windows

Open Device Manager, expand Monitors, right-click the display, open Properties and check Details β†’ Hardware Ids. You will see a code such as MONITOR\BOE0747. It identifies the manufacturer and model ID, which helps narrow down the match.

Before you order

  • Take a photo of the panel label and the connector on the back.
  • Note whether your screen is touch or non-touch, and glossy or matte.
  • Check the resolution in Windows Display Settings.
