"How much to replace my laptop screen?" is the question we hear most at our Markham shop. The honest answer: it depends on the panel. Here is what drives the price, so you know what to expect before you call.
1. Panel type
- Standard HD or FHD non-touch: the most affordable and most common replacement.
- Touchscreen: the glass and touch layer are usually bonded to the LCD, so the whole assembly is replaced. Costs more.
- High refresh rate (120Hz / 144Hz / 165Hz): common on gaming laptops and priced higher.
- 2K, 4K and OLED: premium panels with premium prices.
2. Your laptop brand and model
Business laptops like Lenovo ThinkPad, Dell Latitude and HP EliteBook use widely available panels, which keeps the price reasonable. Thin ultrabooks and 2-in-1s often use the full display assembly instead of just the LCD.
3. MacBooks are different
On most MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models from 2016 onward, the LCD is part of a full top assembly with the lid. That makes it a bigger repair than a Windows laptop screen. We stock Apple LCDs and assemblies for many models.
4. Labour and extra damage
A simple panel swap is quick. If the drop also cracked the bezel, broke a hinge or damaged the display cable, those parts are added. We check everything before starting, and you approve the quote first.
5. Part availability
When the panel is in stock, many repairs are done the same day or the next. Less common panels may need to be ordered.
Is it worth fixing?
For most laptops under 6 to 7 years old, a new screen costs far less than a new laptop. If your laptop also has other problems, ask us. We will tell you straight whether repair makes sense or whether a refurbished laptop is the better deal.
